Brian comes to Sitka with over eight years of professional experience in software development, natural resources, and GIS. He has always been fascinated with the natural world and passionate about conservation, plus he truly enjoys building software tools to help organizations better leverage their data and further their missions.
An Oregon native, Brian has travelled and lived in many other parts of the world as well, including stints in Colorado, France, and Georgia. Following his undergraduate studies, he went on to receive a Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Science from Oregon State University and a Masters of Natural Resources from the University of Idaho. In addition to working on data analysis and software tools in the natural resources space, Brian has also gotten his hands dirty performing a range of environmental field work including wetland delineation, botanical surveys, and fish salvage and supported the deployment of information technology systems to the field.
He lives in Southeast Portland with his wife, two sons, and crazy dog. He loves writing software, but when he’s not behind a computer, Brian likes to be outside: in the garden, in the woods, or on a bike.
