A former watershed ecologist, Steve serves as Sitka's interface between nature and the information collected to manage it. “If we can get high-quality data to natural resource managers more quickly, we'll see real environmental improvement.” His deep understanding of the science that drives the underlying data management challenges clients face in meeting regulatory requirements is instrumental in keeping programs like the Columbia Habitat Monitoring Program on track.
Steve holds a B.S. in Forest Ecology from The Evergreen State College (home of the Geoducks) and an M.S. in Aquatic and Fisheries Science from the University of Washington.
When he’s not directing upgrades to the River Bathymetry Toolkit, Steve enjoys whitewater canoeing, back-country skiing, and hiking. While Steve smartly will tell you that his wife’s cooking is the best in Portland, when he does venture out for the evening ... Toro Bravo and MiHO Izakaya make adequate replacements.
