Travis grew up wanting to become a scientist but eventually gravitated towards software development. Prior to joining Sitka, those two paths were already crossing as he teamed with fellow researchers in Oregon and Washington to study new ways of applying software to benefit the environmental sciences. “Now I’m writing software that supports people who kept going down that same natural sciences path.” In particular, Travis has helped advance the Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation by engineering the online, program management system Miradi Share.
Travis earned his M.S. in Computer Science and Engineering from Oregon Graduate Institute after receiving a B.A. from The Evergreen State College, an institution well known for its environmental engineering programs.
Travis currently resides in downtown Portland, where he enjoys craft-brewed beers and the occasional Xbox video game. His top spots for food in downtown Portland are Prasad in Yoga Pearl for vegan/raw foods, Rave & Rose for the location, or Pepe le Moko for swanky cocktails.
