One of the many exciting applications of high-resolution orthoimagery taken from Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) is the field of quantifying habitat condition and trends. In conjunction with our friends at Columbia Land Trust, we set out to derive metrics from flights at a restoration site in the Columbia River estuary to help inform management decisions around:

  • Reed Canarygrass treatment effectiveness
  • Channel wetted surface area
  • As-built for restoration work
  • Channel cross section comparison
