ACES: A Community on Ecosystem Services represents a dynamic and growing international assembly of professionals, researchers, and policy-makers involved with ecosystem services. The ACES 2018 conference will focus on linking state-of-the-art science, practice, and decision making by bringing together the ecosystem services community and decision makers from around the United States and the globe. ACES 2018 will engage leaders in government, NGOs, academia, Native American tribes, and the private sector to advance the use of ecosystem services science and practice in resource management and other societal decisions.

Nevada Leads Western States with Creative Solution to Protect Endangered Greater Sage-Grouse

Nevada is the first state in the nation to launch an online Conservation Credit System which provides private landowners and public land managers incentives to preserve, enhance, and restore greater sage-grouse habitat. This system provides a statewide market that allows developers (e.g. mining and energy companies) to offset their impact on sage-grouse by purchasing credits from private landowners who have land that qualifies as a safe habitat for the endangered birds. The first credit transaction on the system occurred November 9th.

Now in its 27th year, Best in Basin showcases projects around the lake that demonstrate exceptional planning, implementation, and compatibility with Tahoe’s natural environment and communities.
